 About MyMishawakaWeather.com...

About... the site. MyMishawakaWeather came about because I got tired of having to flip through countless web pages & links to be able to view the data most pertinent to my interest. This site is a good source of weather information for anyone from meteorologists to area residents interested in what the weather will be for an outdoor event. We encourage area Emergency Managers to reference our site as well as those already being visited. If you happen to like our layout and design, please feel free to drop a note to my wife, Lisa who only recently started creating web pages and enjoys designing them. If you like the content, I would like to hear about that as well as weather data is my hobby and passion.

About... the disclaimers. As is the case with any internet source of weather information, our web site should not be relied upon for life-critical decisions. The data available here is in real-time when everything is working as it should, or about 99.9% of the time. I would encourage anyone with more than a casual interest to check the times & dates on the products you find here. That will be an indicator as to the overall health of the server and its data sources. Needless to say, we won't be held liable in any way for how you use data found here or what might result from your use of it.

About...the data. Data stored here is with few exceptions, directly from the National Weather Service and can be considered "official" as there is no editing being done to the data itself. National Weather Service data is obtained by our server via the internet exclusively. We use a combination of NoaaPort, the NOAA Weather Wire Service and the EMWIN data stream. Specific information about these data sources are available in the "Links" area. The lightning graphic is offered through the kindness of Eric Renken of RedfieldWeather.com. Our text data is managed exclusively by the Weather Message suite of software programs provided by Danny Lloyd of Weather Message Software (see the Links area as well as About...credits). We also use some satellite and radar data from the College of Du Page in Glen Ellyn, Illinois (see about...credits). Every effort is made to keep this data current and complete. We hope you will visit us often.

About..."The map" and "The crawl". The Watch, Warning & Advisory map, will outline any areas that the National Weather Service has officially issued statements for. It is near real-time in nature and should never display old data. It will recognize and paint appropriate colors immediately as information is received from the NWS. Please refer to the map legend to the right of the map itself as a reference. The only thing to keep in mind is the fact that it is possible for more than one watch, warning or advisory to be in effect over a given area at the same time. In this case, the threat of most concern will paint on top of lesser threats. Above the map, you'll see a scrolling text briefing of all watches, warnings and advisories affecting the counties in the immediate area only, click here for a list of these counties. The map will show watches, warnings & advisories outside these counties for reference only. Below the map you'll find a link to the full text of each and every watch, warning and advisory product referenced in the crawl.

About...credits. Much credit is given to my wife whose skill and tireless patience made this all possible. Otherwise, Danny Lloyd, the software developer of the Weather Message suite of programs makes the data delivery and management possible, and without his un-ending response to requests for added features and functions I could not have set this site up at all. Many thanks go to Eric Renken of RedfieldWeather.com for providing lightning data to us. (Lightning data is very hard to gain access to, so please visit his site!) The National Weather Service, of course provides all of the text and most of the graphics seen here. The College of Du Page should be thanked as well for allowing us to link to their satellite and radar data. Please review their terms should you chose to use their data.

Please look around and click everywhere as most everything here has a link associated with it. Thanks for visiting!
